There are a lot of repair programs on the internet, some work great, some, well, not so great. In fact there are programs out there that will actually give you what is called “ false positives “ This is when a diagnostic program tells you that you have problems or errors on your computer ( when you really don’t ) in an effort to get you to get your credit card out and buy their software.

With that said, there are some really effective programs out there that do what they are supposed to do. Windows has a bad habit of slowing down over time, and a lot of people end buying new computers - when really they should start by running a diagnostic program that likely will make their systems work a lot better for a whole lot less.

Here are my picks for the top three programs that I would feel comfortable recommending to my clients or friends when in need of a trouble shooting program.

1. Registry Patrol

Registry Patrol is a long serving program on the internet that I use on my clients computers. It’s very simple to use and has been around long enough to build up a loyal following, and more importantly, a trust among technicians like myself who want a program that is effective when it comes to working on their customers computers.

2. Xpmedic.com

Xpmedic is like a diagnostic / troubleshooting program on steroids. It has all the standard features you would expect from a registry repair program, but also comes packed with several tools that most programs leave out. This has its advantages as well as disadvantages. It does give you more control over what you are tweaking on your system, but in the wrong hands, it can also cause you some problems because it allows you to get a little deeper into your operating system then your usual program.

3. The Windows Repair Kit

The Windows Repair Kit is a newer program that you likely have heard of on television and the radio. It’s an easy to use program that will do a full scan of your computer and look for errors in your registry, your .dll library and your active X settings.
